Captain David Edgeworth - Master, British Trader

Captain Edgeworth
I started my seagoing career in 1976, when I joined Shell as a Deck Cadet after leaving school. I followed in my father’s footsteps, after he served as second mate with Esso (ExxonMobil) during the second world war before leaving the sea to take up farming.
It was my last trip as a Deck Cadet that I served on my first LNG tanker, the Methane Progress, which happened to be one of the very first ships built to transport LNG, running between Arzew in Algeria and Canvey Island on the Thames.
After completing my cadetship and successfully gaining my second mates in 1979, I was promoted to 3rd Mate and served on a wide range of crude, product, bulk carriers and LNG tankers with Shell.
It was 1997 before I joined BP as Chief Officer, and served on the BP managed NGSCo project LNG ships running between Das Island in the UAE and Japan.
In 2002 I was promoted to Master, and since then have continued to serve on the BP LNG fleet.
I took command of the British Trader in July this year.
