College of the Sea

Education for the Royal Navy
The College of the Sea was inaugurated in 1938 to provide the means whereby those who made their living at sea could continue their education and benefit from the same educational support as was enjoyed by their counterparts ashore.

We've been providing supported distance learning to Royal Navy/Royal Marines personnel ever since. Today most RN/RM personnel studying GCSEs and A levels on deployment are doing so through us.

We deliver our acclaimed services supported by the Learning and Skills Council, quality assured by Osfted, and in partnership with the Royal Navy.

We work to secure the highest quality of learning experience for our students and pride ourselves on rigorous academic standards with unmatched levels of customer service.

Whilst we have around 500 active learners studying at GCSE and A Level, we also offer opportunities for RN/RM personnel to continue their education in many other areas and at many other levels, too.

So browse the pages in this site and see what's on offer.

Distance learning for professional mariners is all we do - so you can sure of a dedicated and personal service from people who really understand and genuinely care about your needs.

You'll find our fees are the lowest around, and our offering is bettered by no other organisation - we are an examination centre, and routinely arrange for our learners to sit exams at sea or at bases throughout the world.
