Financial Assistance
exclusively for UK seafarers
The Marine Society administers a variety of financial schemes to help UK national seafarers (officers and ratings domiciled in the UK) to advance their academic and professional qualifications.
Marine Society Worcester Scholarships
for serving officers
Primarily aimed at the qualified mariner who wishes to gain a higher academic qualification in the maritime field (eg: BEng or BSc in Maritime Engineering or Operations, and in some cases for Diploma courses eg Marine Surveying) leading to a broader career in the maritime sector.
In special circumstances a Worcester scholarship may be granted to a seafarer aiming for a higher professional qualification where there is no support from the employer.
John William Slater Scholarships
for serving ratings
The Marine Society, on behalf of Nautilus UK, administers the John William Slater Scholarship for serving ratings aspiring to their first Officer of the Watch certificate of competency.
Scholarships are currently worth up to £15,000 and can be used to offset the direct costs of obtaining the certificate of competency through any of the UK nautical colleges.
Candidates will be required to complete an application form and provide references and a CV.
For those undertaking the full-time OOW course and "off pay" for that period, further financial assistance may be available through:-
