Lifelong learning opportunities

flexible learning solutions
There are many ways to continue your education as a member of the Sea Cadet Corps in 2009.

The College of the Sea website represents a one-stop shop which offers signposts to some of the most common routes to personal and professional development.

There is a range of general courses from which to choose, all delivered by distance learning. Our offer is constantly evolving and includes learning programmes and skills to suit every taste, age, background and ability.

Those who serve the Sea Cadet Corps can apply for access to the Defence Learning Portal - Europe's biggest e-learning facility.

Meanwhile there is the new Open University Foundation Degree in Working With Young People.

And you can get this worthwhile qualification for free by means of Marine Society & Sea Cadets sponsorship in the form of an Admiral Tippet Memorial Scholarship.
Find out more here.

And new for 2009 is an impressive range of specially discounted Continuing Professional Development courses available from The Open University.

As an adult working with the Sea Cadet Corps you could also get an award through CVQO.

    Pat McManus, Superintendent
    SCTC, Gannet, is studying our
    new Foundation Degree
"I am enjoying the course and pleased with the learning material provided by the Open University and the high quality of tutorial support.

This course represents a big commitment for me personally - especially as I’m returning to study as a mature student - but I realise that what I’m learning now underpins all the practical work I undertake with the Sea Cadets.

I would definitely recommend this course - it really does complement our work with young people through the SCC."

Pat McManus is one of many of our colleagues who started studying the MSSC's Open University Foundation Degree Working With Young People in September last year. Like the others, her studies - completed entirely by distance learning - are being fully funded by the MSSC by means of an Admiral Tippet Memorial Scholarship.
