Award Overview

CVQO
The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Award in First Line Management is a qualification which gives an introduction to the basic skills, knowledge and understanding required by today's first line manager.

The mandatory unit Solving Problems and Making Decisions is designed to develop practical techniques for tackling managerial problems and making decisions from gathering and interpreting information through to the effective communication of outcomes.

Eligibility

Instructors attending the Junior Staff Officer’s Course (SCC) can enrol for the ILM Award in First Line Management. The qualification cannot be gained retrospectively and thus any adult wishing to complete this award must register with CVQO during the course itself.

Personal Skills and Performance Criteria

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate personal skills and specific competence against a set of performance criteria that have been mapped against the course training programmes and course assessments:

  • Solving Problems and Making Decisions
  • Introduction to leadership
  • Organising and delegating
  • Giving briefings and making
  • Presentations
  • Delivery

    In order to qualify the candidate must complete their course and commit to returning a 1000 word work-based assignment within one month of finishing their course.

    This work-based assignment is scenario based and focuses on the core module of Problem Solving. Through their work-based assignment candidates will need to present their case for the improvement or change in a logical manner.

    Course assessments carried out during the week will also count as evidence towards the qualification.

    Assessment

    Candidates will be assessed against the performance criteria and how best they demonstrate these competencies through their written work.

    In addition course assessment sheets completed by the varying course instructors at Cadet Training Centres will also contribute towards evidence.

    The candidates written work will move through three assessment stages before a Pass result can be confirmed by CVQO:

  • Marked by Assessor
  • Marked by Internal Verifier
  • Passed to ILM for External Verification
  • Fees

    All registration fees are subsidised and CVQO offer an ‘Easy Payment’ method, of payment by instalments.
