A limited number of staff and volunteers serving with the Sea Cadet Corps can now be granted access to the Defence Learning Portal (DLP).
What is it?
The Defence Learning Portal (DLP) is a web-based e-Learning facility for the defence community provided through a partnership between BT and the MoD. It's the biggest facility of its kind in Europe.
There are currently 800+ learning and development opportunities available through the DLP covering a range of skills. They include navigation, computer literacy, data protection, health and safety, sea survival, training delivery, first aid, equality and diversity through to leadership and management. And the number and range of courses is growing all the time.
The SCC has a dedicated domain within the DLP. It contains information, courses, and a discussion forum facility set aside for the Corps' use.
e-Learning?
What's this about?
It's about the application of technology to learning: the process of learning which is supported by the use of information and communication technology.
It's not a tool: rather it's a medium, a channel of communication through which learning can take place. This is the best way to regard the DLP.
And it's a highly versatile new channel through which a wide range of new tools for learning can be delivered.
e-Learning empowers the learner: it offers the freedom and flexibility to learn any subject at any level when and where the learner wants and at a pace which suits them.
Ok, so
what's in the DLP for me then?
