How the programme works

The programme has two objectives. To improve:

- the professional practice of students
- students' analytical and evaluative skills which are transferable to a wide range of application

Programme content

The programme lasts three semesters (about 16 months).

Semester 1
Review of Professional Learning

The student is asked to review their prior training and professional experience to identify, analyse and evaluate their learning. this is an essential introduction to how experience can be used to generate learning.

Programme Planning

The student negotiates the title of the award they are working towards eg MA in Professional Practice (Safety at Sea) and justifies this award title based on the project they intend to complete and the research required.
Semester 2
Work Based Research and Development Methods

This module familiarises the student with the skills needed to successfully complete their project and also tackle a wide range of different types of projects.
Semester 3
The Project

This must be work based and generate significant new knowledge from data gathered in the work place. This data and conclusions are compared with academic and professional sources to identify means of individual and corporate performance improvement.

Fees

The MSCoS/Mdx programme will take about 16 months to complete. The cost to the UK/EU learner is £4,080 (this is the current 2007/8 fee rate).

The corresponding international (non-EU) fee is £6,130.
