based London, SE1 7JW.

Who are we? The Marine Society & Sea Cadets, founded in 1756, is the nation's largest maritime charity, delivering services to professional seafarers and others considering careers at sea. Ashore we run the Sea Cadet Corps, with over 14,000 Sea Cadets aged between 10 and 18, supported by over 8,000 volunteers, in nearly 400 independent Sea Cadet units across the United Kingdom. The charity has net assets of £27M, annual income and expenditure of some £16M and employs around 200 staff in 20 locations across the United Kingdom, with its headquarters in London. An offshore fleet of some five vessels, including the charity’s square rigged flagship, is based in Gosport in Hampshire.

Our role: We are looking for an experienced financial controller who will maintain, manage and control the charity’s accounting books and records, manage the charity’s accounting receipts and payments and other transactions, perform control checks and reconciliations as appropriate and in accordance with best accounting practice, and to manage the staff of the Finance department. One finance officer is based in HQ (with a further part time finance officer envisaged) with two regional finance managers based outside London. The role will be assisted by the part time finance and projects accountant and a further, remotely located finance manager, responsible for the volunteer allowance payroll and the charity’s car fleet, both of whom also report to the Director of Finance, IT and Trading.

Our mission: We are a vibrant and growing charity delivering life changing nautical adventure and fun for young people through the Sea Cadets. We aim to give young people nationwide the best possible head start in life by building life skills to help provide a brighter future. Additionally our Marine Society College and Library make personal and professional development opportunities available to Seafarers, wherever they may be. This is an exciting time for the charity and we need top talent like you to come aboard and help us realise our goals and maximise our impact.

What we’re looking for: You will be a CCAB qualified accountant, with experience as a financial controller in a charity of comparable size. You will need the enthusiasm, vision, professionalism, expertise and experience to control and be responsible for all aspects of the charity’s finances, and to provide high quality financial advice and support to the charity’s staff and business.

This is an exciting and interesting post in a charity with broad and diverse operations across the United Kingdom and at sea, offering wide scope to develop both the role and your own professional skills.
