Salary: c. £32,000 - £35,000 gross per annum
MSSC (Marine Society and Sea Cadets) is a friendly and focused place to work. As the parent charity for two dynamic, nautical and seafaring organisations, we are the leading maritime charity for youth development and lifelong learning. We are the governing body of the Sea Cadets, which gives 14,000 young people a great head-start in life through nautical adventure based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy, and Marine Society which supports the personal and professional development of seafarers wherever they are in the world.
We are currently seeking to appoint a Policy Advisor who will advise us on external youth policy and the emerging needs of young people relevant to the Sea Cadets as well as a wider perspective of the maritime sector. Using your policy and research skills, you will work to monitor and evaluate our data and assess the impact of our work and our future plans through evidence-based research.
Key responsibilities of your role include to –
- Advise on and manage external policy and research work with a focus on the youth development sector
- Identify emerging trends and government initiatives that might benefit and impact the work of MSSC
- Make evidence-based recommendations through the monitoring and evaluation of data
- Work with and manage external consultants where necessary to assess and evaluate our impact against our outcomes framework

The role presents a real opportunity to make a strategic difference to the work that we do.
Candidates will need to demonstrate the experience of analysing qualitative and qualitative data and the experience of working on youth development policy and research. Strong interpersonal and management skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of stakeholders is a must.
